The HIPAA Omnibus Rule was published in the Federal Register on 25th January 2013, which is a composition of closely related four rules. It has modified the privacy and security rules for covered entities, including health plans, healthcare providers, and business associates. The primary purpose of the Omnibus Rule was to implement the provisions of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Act (HITECH) to improve the privacy and security protections of health-related information established under HIPAA.
